Boil Water Advisory 8/19/2025

August 19, 2025

**Attention Rural Water 4 Customers Located SOUTH of 100th St***

The advisory includes only those Butler Co. RWD 4 customers south of 100th Street.

Water line break resulted in a loss of pressure in the system. The failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.

The advisory took effect on August 19, 2025, and will remain in effect until conditions that place the system at risk of contamination are resolved. We will send water samples to the lab as soon as possible to check for bacteria. Once sample results are received, absent of bacteria, the boil water advisory will be lifted.

Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:

 Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation, or use bottled water.
 Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
 Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
 Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
 If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.

Free Chlorine Disinfection Notice Aug 4th-31st

July 29, 2025

Our water supplier, the City of El Dorado, will use free chlorine for water disinfection from August 4 to August 31, 2025, to maintain a healthy water system, as recommended by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

What to Expect:

  • You may notice a chlorine taste or smell in the water. This is normal, and the water is safe to drink.
  • To reduce chlorine taste or odor, use an affordable faucet-mounted filter or chill a pitcher of water in the refrigerator.
  • Fire hydrant flushing may cause cloudy water, air bubbles, or slight pressure changes. Run your faucet until the water clears, and clean faucet screens if needed.

After August 31: The system will return to using chloramines, a milder disinfectant.

Special Notes:

  • Dialysis patients: Ensure free chlorine is fully neutralized and consult your doctor.
  • Aquarium owners: Monitor chlorine levels in tap water.
